The Baby Animals

Few Australian bands have left a mark on rock music like Baby Animals. Fronted by powerhouse vocalist and songwriter Suze DeMarchi, the band rose to fame in the early 1990s with their incendiary live shows and raw, melodic rock sound — and they’ve never looked back.
Suze began her music career singing in Perth pub bands at age 17. After several years in London with EMI as a solo artist, she returned home in 1989 and formed Baby Animals with guitarist Dave Leslie, drummer Frank Celenza, and bassist Eddie Parise. Their chemistry was electric.
In 1991, the band’s self-titled debut album exploded onto the Australian music scene, debuting at #6 and spending six weeks at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart. Driven by iconic singles like Early Warning, Rush You, Painless and One Word, it achieved 8× platinum status and became the highest-selling debut Australian rock album at the time.

The band toured relentlessly, sharing stages with Bryan Adams, The Black Crowes, Van Halen (by personal request of Eddie Van Halen) and Robert Plant.
They appeared on David Letterman, graced the cover of Rolling Stone and took home three ARIA Awards, including Album of the Year and Best New Act.
Their 1993 follow-up album, Shaved and Dangerous, saw the band expand their sonic palette with help from Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) and producer Ed Stasium (Ramones, Living Colour), earning critical praise for its emotional depth and dynamic edge.
After a hiatus in the late ’90s, DeMarchi released her acclaimed solo album Telelove before Baby Animals reunited in the 2000s. In 2013, they released their third studio album, This Is Not The End, proving they were still a force to be reckoned with.
Today, Baby Animals stand tall as one of Australia’s most enduring and electrifying live acts. Led by iconic frontwoman Suze DeMarchi, with original guitarist Dave Leslie, bassist Dario Bortolin and new drummer Ricki Rae, the band recently wrapped back-to-back Red Hot Summer Tours, sharing the stage with the likes of ZZ Top, George Thorogood, The Living End, ICEHOUSE, Noiseworks, Wolfmother and more — playing to massive crowds and reigniting their rock legacy for a new generation.
A brand-new studio album is currently in the works, slated for release in 2026.
With Suze DeMarchi’s unmistakable voice and their signature no-holds-barred sound, Baby Animals continue to evolve, inspire, and blow audiences away — just as they’ve done since day one.
